I will certainly employ your painting method, as the flames leaping from the body give the impression of being violently hot. I think a nice touch would have been some smoke rising from around the taloned foot touching the ground. Perhaps this could be achieved by using grey thread that has been frayed or cotton soaked in grey paint, dried, and pulled with a heavy dose of a flat spray to keep them stiff?
