A Helldorado Update

Greetings from New Jerusalem! After quite a bit of time with no news we are glad to be at a point where we can talk about some of our future plans for Hell Dorado.

We would like to apologize for the delay in communications from us after the announcement that we would be continuing the game and miniatures line. There has been an extended period of negotiations between us and Asmodee, which has now been resolved. Currently work is going forward on getting all of the existing molds shipped to us here in the US. We have been working hard on editing the English translation we have, and wrangling all of the clarifications and additional materials, such as the rules for the Immortals, that we plan to include in the English edition of the core Hell Dorado book. This work continues and now we will be kicking it into high gear.

We plan to release Hell Dorado in August of 2010, with new products including faction based starters debuting at Gen Con Indy. These products will then ship to distribution either the week after Gen Con or the week following that. I will work on getting together a concrete schedule of releases to share with all of you as soon as I can.

Along with new starters we plan to restructure the way the product line has been packaged so far, putting most figures in blisters, so that it is possible to get troops separate from unique individuals or to buy specific models that a player favors. For example we will package 2 or 3 Arquebusier’s together in a blister allowing players to easily acquire whatever number of them they choose, without being forced to buy unique officer models multiple times. We plan on using boxes for larger figures that require the extra room such as Georg Von Holbein, or starter sets.

Again we thank you for your interest so far and look forward to moving forward with this great game and line of beautiful miniatures. Please feel free to direct any inquiries you have to info@cipher-studios.com or to me at Dave@cipher-studios.com.

You’ll make a lot more friends in the US retail community, and form a much better relationship with a lot of FLGS, if you ship the starter sets and rulebooks the week of Gencon, instead of afterwards. If you’re selling product to a stores customers at Gencon before they even get the product on your shelves, expect the same backlash that other companies have been hit with.

We understand where you are coming from Mike and we feel it is very important to do everything we can to support LGS’s.

We would love to be shipping it in the same week as Gen Con but at this point I do not believe that that will be possible for us, unfortunately. So we are trying to give any interested parties a heads up about our plans for the future.

We do pretty much have to take the product to Gen Con and if we didn’t sell it while there, then it would make the show much much harder for us to attend.

We are not the largest operation so the amount of product that we can feasibly bring to Gen Con is not a large number of units. Plus we will be teaching people how to play the game, and selling a limited amount of product, making players more excited about the game. We feel that this scenario helps LGS’s that wish to carry the product much more than it hurts them at this point.

Thanks for the comment, and please have a great day.

    Great news,
I’ll be flying from Barcelona (Spain) to Indy for Gen Con, so you can count on a rulebook and a few models flying back with me. I’m glad to see this game back into action.

    Congrats!

English cards presented for people who already have models is something that we are working on. When I know more concrete dates about when we will have them ready then we will announce them.

    Hello,

As a retailer in Belgium, I followed the game in french even before it’s beginning (we “beta tested” it on several ‘cons). We had a tremendous community that was very active on asmodee forums also. Lots of my customers are asking about “what’s next?” since the infos of Cypher Studios getting the game from Asmodee. So here are a few questions :

What about the french version? (I know Anima is translated into french) Do you plan to just develop it in english now?

Do you plan to distribute it in Europe as soon as it “comes out again” in USA or will we have to wait longer? (I know you work with Edge with Anima Tactics)

Do you still work with Asmodee for the development of the game or did you get it all for you following new ideas or projects for the game?
(again lots of people here have participated a lot to give feedbacks while playing fun or competitively )

Are you going to put a demomaker/tournament organizer system in place for Helldorado (we had some here while collaborating with Asmodee)?

Thanks for the infos and big up for the work and reprisal of this great game!
