136  Anima - Tactics / Game Rules / Re: Definition of an Area Attack on: April 27, 2011, 01:58:54 AM
The simplest explanation would be that with melee area attacks the range is measured from the edge of the attacker's base and not from its center, meaning the attack cannot hit the attacker as the AOE does not actually cover any part of the attacker's base (the distance between the AOE and the base edge is infinitely small, but not 0 or -x).

With other AOEs (mostly ranged AOEs) the range is measured from the base of the target hit or a point on the board (as with Dark Sun). The attacker can find himself within the space occupied by the AOE "template" and thus can hit himself.

As for Grimorium's AOE melee attack it is worded so so that he can also hit his allies with it and not just enemies (a minor drawback if you will); it's the same case with Raziel Nk-X who can hit allied units.

Just wanted to say I'm still updating this, guys. Maybe a sticky?
138  Anima - Tactics / Neutral Faction / Re: Princess of the Arias on: April 22, 2011, 02:17:05 AM
Seems to be the case... Smiley

I love her. I'm not convinced that her leader option is worth discluding XII from the party, but some of the skills are really powerful, if not too powerful. Armor-ignoring makes gear parties cry (it's essentialy +5/6 damage against them), and guts damage resistance creatures in general. It also provides good damage boost against Empire. Auto-seek is good but it's not like other organizations don't have Vision or prowlers. Def +2 is OK, sort of like Sophia's but not reactive (bad). Aut-escape is very situational. +4 speed could be broken (like a 1 AP Tempus Fugit for any character each turn).

As for the standard abilities... It's funny, but her summoning powers sound more like an afterthought than the main course. She'd be great even if she was a pure fighter. Nux is potentially very useful and can destroy certain parties heavy on one type of abilities. Others will not care and simply do what they would do anyway - start charging into the fray. It makes Valis even a bigger target. Shesha is too good IMO, I don't like the fact that recent characters all seem to be getting +x Attack special attacks instead of +x attack, +x Damage. +3/+2 I could stomach, but +5/+0 is too good. A 3 AP attack with 11/4 on a 55 points character? Come on... It's much better than 9/6, and that would be great too. Naga should've been Effect 15; 16 versus 3 or 4 characters is a bit too much. Finally - 5 max AP. This is something that I hate on the optional leaders. Without the leader upgrade they are like characters of the same level but with one extra max AP and they don't pay any points for it. I'm pretty sure there are no non-leader characters with 5 AP unless it's their main gimmick which they pay for in utility (Feng Yi, dragons, Dereck...). Couple this with the Process and you have a 4/5 AP monster. 5 max AP should've been reserved for those optional leaders that have actually bought the leader upgrade. Only poor Raziel got shafted...

Her most obvious weakness is of course relative squishiness. 9/1/14 only goes so far, and she needs to be close to the frontline to make use of her most powerful abilities (Nux, super attack). Make her a priority target and she will go down fast. Overall at first glance she is on the powerful side. Versatile, great damage output, can summon well, 5 AP. For 55 points. Yeah...

These have been already added to the Cipher store along with, drumroll, character card singles! Yup, you can now order character card replacements for Valis and Male Samael Agent. I can only hope they will eventually add all the character cards to the store or at least keep adding the ones for newest releases.

Ha,ha, you're right, but simply add Celia and you're good to go!
141  Anima - Tactics / Neutral Faction / Re: Sherzamm!! a dereck shezard post. on: April 01, 2011, 05:59:23 AM
I find the concept of a total Neokinesis overdrive party amusing. 4 AP recovery for all and mucho hilarity guaranteed! For 200 you could go for something like this:

Clover +Tempus Fugit
Dereck +Clock of Chronos
Rayne
Shinobi (a dead weight, but there's no one else you can buy for 20 pts)

+Neokinesis Magnus, of course.

To get to 250 simply add Celia. Two self-sufficient beatsticks, a fast warrior and some cannon fodder. Might be fun to play Smiley

On the subject of price, I wrote something on my blog here: http://wargamestuff.blogspot.com/2010/05/evil-empire-and-its-wicked-pricing.html

The crucial point isn't the cost of the models per se, but how much value each model brings to the game. On a model by model basis, Anima Tactics is probably the single most expensive 28-30mm game around (at least in the UK). But it's not about comparing models with models. Because of Anima's skirmish nature, each model is equivalent to a whole unit in a larger scale game (that each model comes with its rules doesn't hurt either).

So although each model is very expensive, they feel more valuable.

I wouldn't say that standard-sized Anima models are more expensive than GW models. If you visit the GW store you will notice that single character blister prices have been jacked up to 15$ per model (a single Anima model: 11$). A bit bulkier models (say in terminator armor)will cost you up to 23 bucks. One Infinity model will run you 8-9 Euro, which is circa 11$. And then there's the quality - not only are AT and Infinity figures cheaper, they are also light years ahead of GW's sculpting and design-wise.
143  Anima - Tactics / News / Re: Faction Roster and Rumor Compilation on: March 11, 2011, 04:11:10 AM
Well, they produce quality miniatures for prices not that much out of line compared to other manufacturers. Really, have you seen what GW expects their clients to pay for 5 *plastic* Grey Knights? 33 frigging dollars... 22.25$ for metal Draigo (terminator-armor hero).

I'm not saying that Anima is cheap, because it isn't, but to me I the quality to price ratio is very good. Not to mention you don't need 50 minis just to play a standard-sized game. Also, if I was faced with a choice between a 50$ Legacy or 54$ Dreadknight I'd choose the former without a second thought. It's like choosing between a high quality collector's piece and a gaming piece at best, a toy at worst.

Although truth be told that Raziel IS overpriced ;P

Maria and her goon are simply incredible, and Morrigan had me gaping at her for a good few minutes - it has the potential to blow any other release so far out of the water!

Damn, every time I'm catching up to current releases and think I can squeeze some minis from other manufacturers in they have to preview new and even more amazing (and pricier!) figures and pull me back in. Time to start saving dough for these!

- Also, the last sentence has a grammatical error, a problem with subject consistency, to be precise. ..."the Agent is normal and you decide whether they are either a Warrior or a Mystic."

Should be "Agent" with "it is". After all, Agent is one person, not a "they".
Actually, you're wrong. The plural pronoun "they" is used when the subject's gender is unspecified (as in it can refer to either a male or a female individual). Alternatively you can use the masculine "he", or, if you like to abide by the PC or are a feminist, "she". "He or she" is also fine, however it's too long for my taste. You CANNOT use the neuter pronoun "it" to refer to a human being.

There is another error in that sentence and it is that "either" is superfluous.

Anyone know who the sculptor is?

As far as I'm concerned a Privateer Press freelancer. The same guy that sculpted the Hordes Circle of Orboros Pureblood Warpwolf.
That would be Jason Hendriks? I'm pretty sure this is the first sculpt in a long time that wasn't done by Navarro, not counting Hennebo's gears, of course. I sincerely hope this doesn't mean Navarro is overworked or unavailable and AS will be hiring even more "guest sculptors" in the future to do Anima models. Not to discount other sculptors, but the very first Anima models done by Garrity, Jackson, and Elliott weren't exactly stellar, and neither is Nk-X.
147  Anima - Tactics / Neutral Faction / Re: Black Sun's Ultimate Weapon on: February 01, 2011, 12:06:57 PM
So, you're essentialy paying 15 points for +4 LP and LP drain for each kill scored, and a slightly improved Sweep. Toughness means that your Nk-X will live till the end of turn and then have an 80% chance of fading into oblivion. Is that worth 15 points? I'm not sure... Would it have killed them to give him one more point of Armor? The best thing about him is that he's got the potential to be a 75-level intangible creature. Now that's hard to remove and he completely neuters some characters once he gets into melee with them.

As for a leader with 2/4 AP that makes it impossible to take a real Leader (i.e. Clover)... ha, ha, ha, that's a good one!
148  Anima - Tactics / News / Re: Neutral Characters Painted Shots on: February 01, 2011, 11:45:32 AM
I agree, the Nk-X is not a very good sculpt. Its proportions are all wrong, especially the head - it's frigging huge! I'm also not thrilled about how his right arm looks; I hope the box contains a second Raxxor. All in all this thing doesn't hold a candle to Archetypum. Anyone know who the sculptor is?

Also - Yannick is not doing Theurgia? That's... unfortunate.
149  Anima - Tactics / Game Rules / Re: Azure Alliance + Kagemaru = LOL? on: January 14, 2011, 01:39:54 PM
Something even more crazy:

Kagemaru (Leader) 55
Freya 35
Frey 35
Harod 35
Kyler 35
Jerome 35
Shinobi 15 (5 for Stealth)
Shinobi 15 (5 for Stealth)
Agent 20 (5 for Murder Attack boost or 8/12 Speed)
Agent 20 (5 for Murder Attack boost or 8/12 Speed)

10 stealthed models at 300 points. And the beauty of it is that with the new female Azur Agent you have to buy an additional copy of only one figure - Shinobi. A hilarious list I must say! Worth trying out at least once for the look on your opponent's face.
150  Anima - Tactics / News / Re: Gear summary cards on: January 05, 2011, 05:48:31 AM
Yup, very useful, especially when constructing Gear-heavy parties.

I've found one error - Mausser's Grimorium references Goethia in the description of Aim Shot.
