Anima - Persona Edition

Hey all,

I'm just about to start my first Anima game and have a decent set of good ideas but figured I'd come on here quickly before to get a couple pieces of advice. I'm not asking for things to keep in mind while storytelling, only ideas for how I can truly bring the Anima feel out better. I guess you could say I'm looking for advice on themes and nature but not so much strategy or storytelling. As I'm aware this fully depends on where the characters are situated in the world I was thinking Bekent. Anyone got some advice? Smiley

You'll need to choose well the starting place, because it can be difficult after to run your game. I chose Lucrecio, because I loooove this country, but it's getting hard as I want my adventures to be quite political, and it's hard to figure out what's in Lucanor's head...

Bekent is quite far from the continents, so you can make your PC come from there, and make them discover Gaia as they land on it...

Maybe you should be aware about the New Continent : Gaia vol 1 is only about the Old Continent, so I you want to follow an official direction, you will need to wait for Gaia 2 to see the New Continent... (longer than a waiting for Gaia 1...) But if you want to create a few parts of your own world, the New Continent could be nice.

Maybe you could give a slight of your ideas ? It will be easier to help you...

Not much has been said about Bekent, so if you give us an idea of what you're aiming for in terms of campaign themes/characteristics, maybe we can help more. Do you want it to be mystery-orientated? Political? Exploration?

I tend to think of Lucanor as the ultimate Xanatos Gambit villian (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/XanatosGambit?from=Main.TheXanatosGambit for an explanation, or if you've seen the old Gargoyles animated series, the main villian who it is named for is from there). He always has a plan, a counter plan, and a counter counter plan. Even if you foil a plan or alter the sitation, Lucanor has either accounted for it, or -wanted- you to do it in the first place.

I'm looking forward to using him a lot in a coming campaign. I really like the current tense political climate of Gaia. Smiley

I'll take a look, thanks Cheesy I'm a newbie concerning comics and mangas... But my problem is my players are on Lucanor's side... so I go crazy trying to figure out if and how he will do each little thing and why, etc.

Well...

My plots tend to be chaotic sagas. Long stretching epics with plenty of holes in the middle because who knows where the players will take it. I leave a lot of room for improvisation and PC free will. I will however break down my main thought ina  nutshell.

My views on southern Bekent are much like the land of Switzerland if it were in turmoil and non-neutral. At least during the summer seasons. Winters there are expected to be staggeringly cold. A loose run-down of the plot I've been crafting is as follows:

An old Summoner from the Azur Alliance was exiled for reasons of forbidden Love. Essentially, the woman he was marrying was wanted by another (possibly canon char) and he was exiled using political sway. His views were always extreme against the Church, Empire, and now the Alliance so he traveled to where they existed least, that being Bekent.

As he started forging his revenge he stumbled upon the object of his salvation in the frozen north. A piece of black metal which opened his mind to a great deal of truth. He'll use this to end the feuds with the fighting nobles in Bekent by staging a civil war. Using the piece of metal and his superior skills of manipulation, he'll take over a significant group of Mentalists. Using them, he'll develop a psycho-toxin that can only be transmitted into the mind via Mentalists. The toxin will allow access to the minds of certain individuals and allow them to be used much like computers.

In this case he will be introducing this toxin into the minds of the soldier based guilds around Bekent. This will be the stepping stone for bringing about his civil war. He wants the war so he can forge his own empire on Bekent and use that and the new virus to destroy the Alliance, Church and Empire from within. Causing their greatest heroes to fall victim to acts of extreme violence and treachery as dictated by himself and by that time his significant following of Mentalists.

The characters will be casualties of happenstance as their lives are forever changed by the civil war surrounding them. Being forced from their homes they'll need to figure out what the cause of the sudden war is and why suddenly without warning their protectors in the soldiers guild are acting so strangely.

The piece of metal held by the summoner is what will assure a great deal of his victory and see him safely in the arms of his love again with the broken ruins of the Alliance, Church and Empire around them in ash.

The trick here is, I'm reading new stuff every day and diverging this plot all the time. I want to of the main themes to be love and war and that seems to be all fair Smiley I have music from Masterplan and Allen/Lande for mood setting. Alas, this was probably to glib an interpretation. I've reviewed it all so many times and I've left out many subplots. Truth be told all of this will start out incredibly small as me and my group get the system down.

Anyway, sorry for the length.
