1) What is a Coldness bonus? It's mentioned on page 223 under, "Special Bonuses", third paragraph.

2) I'm struggling to understand how sorcerer's, psychics and Ki masters fit into the world. Supernatural beings as well. The way I think it works is much like Exalted in that some places (as rare as they may be) will accept mystical beings, wereas others do not. Sorcerer's and psychics have to hide it seems, so are there academies? How prevalent/accepted are Ki powers?

1) Given the example, likely a mistranslation of what should be 'Composure'.

2) Supernatural powers are generally persecuted by the Church, so flashing them in public (at least, any public where word can get around) is generally a major no-no, unless you a) Have some sort of political/organizational ties that protect you (Its likely no secret that Kisidan and the other leaders of the Heaven Order use Ki or that Matthew Gaul is a Warlock, but the figures have such political clout that challenging them on it) or if the Chuch has declared your powers a 'Gift from God', allowing you usage of them. (Hence how Inquisitors can get away with using the same supernatural abilities they are charged to hunt down against their quarry).

Still, there are obviously areas where the Church's influence is not as strong. Howver, most people are still going to be appropriately shocked, awed and suspicious.

OK, thanks! That helps a lot. It's a little disappointing that Ki powers aren't more accepted. I wanted there to be a monastary and all that jazz. No biggie, as it can be hidden. One other thing I was wondering about is how a player could play one of the less human-looking races and not have to wait outside any of the major cities, or are they just screwed?

I guess that Anima doesn't feel very fantasical insofar as you have to hide so much of the fantasy elements. Maybe I just need some more info or exposure.

In some ways you can consider it pretty similar to Exalted: if you are a Solar, you aren't going to show your powers anywhere near an Inmaculate or in a place friendly towards the empire. The same applies to Anima, special powers are a big no-no in territories that follow the Church.

Ki powers are maybe a bit more tolerated, since in first place they are less noticeable at low levels and it's easier to say that you have an incredible skill parrying than justify the shield of darkness and skulls protecting you xD

Playing a non-human race is very hard (the book advices not to allow pure races for a "normal" game). Non-human people on Gaia are very very rare, and most of them live in very desert places or under Samael protection. You'll need to disguise in a human being to survive...

And, for supernatural powers : remember Gaia is made with a lot of different countries and cultures. In Varja and Phaļon for example, Ki powers can be more accepted.

exact

As for supernatural, people never liked what they couldn't understand. If they see someone launching lightning bolts from his fingers, they woill be very suspicious (wouldn't you ?). By the way, not all spells/powers/abilities are flashy.

Ki techniques that improve your attack/defence/damage would have you look like someone skilled and strong.
Spiritual spell are invisible (the Destruction 30 spell inflicts wounds, and no one "normal" can spot the source)
Telepathy powers are, well... a real pain... that goes unnoticed

Casting a fireball will likely turn you into a target for an angry mob; as surely as randomly killing someone with a mundane sword would.
