Indeed.

A question, tho: Do these PDFs carry any kind of DRM or any means to avoid their relentless copying?

EDIT: Of course, there's a problem with the PDF toolkit: You're miisng out on the wonderful/awesome thick sturdy carboard GM screen that comes with it.

I don't know about the GMKit, but most PDFs sold by DTRPG have unique serials at the bottom of each page that include the name of the purchaser (it's usually in gray lettering, and easy to overlook).

Also, having actually studied the matter for a while I can say, contrary to the widespread popular belief, that data piracy cuts into far less of the sales for any RPG PDF than most people believe.  Basic security (like the tracking mechanism DTRPG uses) is adequate in deterring the small number of pirates that will be deterred.  Of those who will not be deterred, most of them will never purchase the product regardless, and may never even realize they've downloaded it.

Most people are honest, it turns out.

There is DRM but it is very light.
You can make as any personal copies as you want.

Things you can not do.
Document Assembly
Page Extraction (no copying images)
Commenting
Signing
Creation of Template Pages
Changing the Document

Besides that you can do anything you want.

At this point, relentless copying might actually help Anima by driving up interest such that FFG would show a bit less callous disregard for quality in its translations.

Not feeling like making up a new thread for it, but Gaia's getting some love at DTRPG as well.
