Hi, all

I've been touring round the forum and looking at all your wonderful work and thinking that I'd like to try. I've painted very few minis and these look rather advanced. Are there any figures you would recomend to start with?

I've always used black primer, but it looks like most favor white. Does it make the colour more vibrant?

Are there any place on this forum where I can find tips, techniques etc? I've looked around and there's a lot of knowledge here, but can't seem to find a sticky or a centraliced place for it.

Here's also some of the best belending I've seen and I'd realy like some pointers too Wink

Hi there Babyblue and welcome to the forums!

I recommed simply googling for miniature painting guides or something as this forum isn't really dedicated to painting tutorials. I'm sure you will get lots of useful advice here but if you are looking for more extensive tutorials, you should try to find some other place in addition.

For more advanced stuff, I recommend Massive Voodoo, which is a blog of several pro-painters with lots of great pictures and also some tutorials: http://massivevoodoo.blogspot.com/

Miniature painting is an awesome hobby and I hope you have fun with it and Anima Tactics.

Cheers,
Peter

The light starter is a good one to learn with as Evangeline is one pic with simple costume design and few intricate details like some of the other models.  Kronen is a big armored due with little face to mess with so you can do him easily too.  Both with their simple lines can be nice to learning different techniques like shading, dry-brushing, and blending.

Thanks Peter. There was a lot of great tutorials there, and very easy to follow. I've never made my own bases, but it'll be fun to try.

And thanks Ape, I'll take you advise and get the light starter. Think I'm more of a dark player, but need something when friends come over to play Wink

Edit: Quick question. What's the difference between Milliput and Green stuff?

Got my first Anima figures last week (light starter, Genma and Yuki) and quickly realised I need some practice before atempting these, so I went out and bought a cheap pack of 24 dwarfes, and have a few metal figures from 10 years ago. So far I've tried black vs white primer and watering down the paint (didn't do that 10 years ago).

So far I've come to these conclusions
1. I suck, and have forgotten how to drybrush, but it's stil fun
2. Plastic glue sucks, super glue and epoxy is the way to go
3. The "new" citadel spray cans are better then the old
4. I have better controle with watered down paint since it's easyer not to overload the brush

Next up is milliput vs green stuff, trying white-on-black primer, layring and blending.

It's comming in a bit late, but Reaper Minis are good for practicing painting on as well. They have minis that range from simple to fairly detailed. Also, since they arn't associated with a game (warhammer, warmacinr, etc.) and are just "roleplaying minis" basically, you arn't paying a premium as a game peice, and most of them only cost around 4-6$ each.
At least that's the advice I give to peopleon what to buy to practice on when they come into my store. On the other hand, you an try priming change and painting the designs on that too...I use that to see how colors will look together before putting them on a model, or to see how a wash will look, etc.
