I just got a look at these in a pdf I found here:

http://www.edgeent.com/anima/EN/pdf/tactics%20rulebook%20EN.pdf

And I really like the idea.  Anima seems designed for quick gameplay.  You know, the sort of game where you play three or four rounds in an afternoon instead of one lengthy game.  A game board speeds that up, and provides the opportunity for professionally designed terrain layouts.  I like it.

So, that's the starter rulebook you've found.

I would recommend to download and print the map from the very same site although, if you want to play Anima: Tactics as a boardgame. The map is quite interesting over several games.

I undoubtedly will.

I'm not buying in to Anima Tactics until they come out with sufficient miniatures for me to play a faction affiliation list, though.  I'm waiting on Church at the moment.

Your going to be waiting a long time. You do know that each faction will have a very limit selection (about 10 minis). That will probaly take two or more years to get that many for each faction. You can get a light faction army going and that will give your army more varity. Unless you plain on using the same 4-8 minis every game you play which is what you'll end up with if you only collect faction based troops. In infinity a good selection of troops for one faction will cost about $200. For that amount you can buy 10 light factiion minis and then save the other $100 for the 10 specific minis that belong with the church. Then you can switch between playing a light team or a church team to spice up your game play.

For me, I want dark and wissenchaft minis.

Actually, with Evangeline, Aliss, Azriel, and a team of wanderers (I'm thinking the princess/bodyguard pair) I could be up and running pretty soon.

I expect that I will end up with a second faction, but I don't know yet what it will be.

You should be right, Church is the 3rd playable organization after Samael and the empire.

But I have to agrre with Death with regards to variety I would at least get another wanderer team (like the Pao familiy) to spice up your army a bit with an eye on adaptability and trying out something new once in a while.

At the rate minis are released if you can afford 20 bucks a month you can afford to play all the factions. They all have cool stuff. I guess that's why I bought them all.

Yepp, waiting for Aoi Inukai and Konosuke to get my Samael 300lv force complete, too.

And actually that's one of the reasons I like this game so much, LarkinVain.
