FFG stated the translation was done and the book was already printed.  But something seems to be holding it up or a major mistake was found and they are recalling it.

But officially translating stuff isn't as easy as it seems especially when it comes to rules.  All languages have different nuances and some words and phases can interpreted many different ways.  Rush things and you get a bad translation and you introduce major rule questions or plain unintelligible gibberish.  I seen many fan-subs that were pretty lame or contradictory, even different from each other on the same show.  Now try doing that in a rules setting and you better be careful what you do.

Heck even the little bit of stuff translated on these forums is slow and not always complete.

I used to work for FFG and know some of the people involved in this. I can say that the problem is not finding someone who can speak spanish and english, and understands basic layout design, as Rii Nagaja has asked. I don't know *exactly* what is holding it up, but I expect that it's the standard game company production issues. In particular, printing. Also, sadly, as we are all aware, this is not a high-priority line for FFG. There are a lot of projects getting more attention. The translation was probably done a long time ago, and the english editing not long after that. Layout can be tricky when your word counts change, and the department has a pile of other projects to get done.

There's not much more I can say that is actually useful, sorry. I'm not actually following the project, and I'm not sure what I'd be allowed to say if I knew more. It's annoying, but there's not much we can do to speed it up unless we all buy 20 copies of everything they publish :/

Learning a new language is always beneficial, but that's kinda beside the point.

Translating a text is difficult, for a number of reasons, mainly because of cohesion matters, because -unlike the original author- the translator doesn't know the exact intent of the text, and that not all text translates well into other languages (to br honest, NO text translates well, ever).

That being said, FFG certainly do take their sweet time...

I just want to know if what Amazon's new due date for the book will apply to the books being sent to FFG's warehouses?

One of the editors was telling me that an interesting problem he found was that the translations he got, which I believe came from Edge, were pretty raw, and needed to be smoothed out into readable English. This isn't generally a problem, but a lot of the characters had names and/or titles in Spanish that translate into English words that he wasn't sure should be translated into English. I wish I could think of an example, but, for instance, should someone with the name "Alejandro Blanco" be translated into Alexander White, Alejandro White, Alejandro the White, or be left alone. This was further complicated by the number of words taken from other languages and simply made up for the fantasy setting.

That's why you get words translated differently throughout the books, and you have places with awkward names like "The Barren Icylands" which would probably have been called something more like the "Frozen Lands" or the "Frozen Wastelands" if it were written originally in English.

FRP also says about July 23.
Amazon still lists it as Jan 8 2013.

Giddy! Let's see if frpgames do international shipping for non-exorbitant prices.

It seems that I have to wait for Amazon.
