Well the last one was well over 300 replies so I thought it was time to start again.  Just so we never forget, hehe here is a link to to past.  YAHCT (yet another homebrew character thread)

I'll post again with my first submission very soon, but like the last thread everyone is welcome to join in with a submission of their own.  Or chip in any comments, questions, answers, suggestions or giggles.

Now to start off I throwing in one of the three I was still working on during my Christmas break outburst.  It kind of funny that this guy would be first up since I didn't really have any idea where to go with him for the longest time.

The Shinobi entered the lab complex as silently as cats.  Moving among the shadows they were summoned when an intruder was detected by automated security.  

Their leader sent each of the other two to investigate left and right hallways as he chose to monitor anyone trying to escape.  Like phantoms they all disappeared into thin air.  

All thro' the complex, not a creature was stirring, not even the lab mice.  The experiments were hung by the bio-tanks with care, in hopes that sentiment soon would be there.  The children were nestled all snug in their cells, while nightmare visions of red death danc'd in their heads.  

Nothing could be found every corner was searched as the Shinobi ceased their systematic search.  So off they went into the dark of the night, in hunt of their prey on that cool moonless night.

As they went a unborn Raziel stirred, opening his eyes for the first time.  Reaching out with its inhuman form, grabbing hold of fresh meat of the shinobi hanging right there.

Fluff: Suave, debonair & charming, Locerot is a worldly man that is equally at home in the courts of nobles as of the brothels of slum districts.  He is also one of Wissenschaft’s most prominent Crows.  His ability to infiltrate any organization or gather any information is highly regarded by those in Wissenschaft that even know if his connection to them.  Even if the situation become dire Locerot is calm & in control with an phenomenal ability to improvise a solution.  He is even a threat on the battlefield as his opponents never know what tricks or traps he will spring next.

Notes: Well originally I had no idea what to do with this guy.  He is mentioned in the Gaia book as being a top Crow for Wiss (Shadow 8 lvl) & presently trying to steal a copy of the Necronomicon from the doomed city Terrasanta.  At first I thought of making him a variant of Veronica but I ran into two problems, one I already did that with Sissy Locke and two I couldn’t find a useful role for him to fill.  Then it hit me!  He is a spy so why not make him a take a cover of non-unique Agents & Shinobi.   After crafting Deep Cover to avoid any shenanigans you find with Djinn’s Ash Slave & Absolute Change skills, I looked at how powerful that skill alone was and nerfed some of his other areas.  This included dropping Open Movement, nerfing speed, & dropping his own unique attack.  Still he can fill so many roles in a Wiss party from healer, buffer, debuffer, tank, glass cannon, assassin just from all the options and special skills he is mimicking from the Org Agents or Shinobi.  This is why he is 50 levels due to the potential he holds to be super copy.  Of note I see any skill or ability he gains is not an exactly the same as he uses gadgets, potions, slight of hand & trickery to achieve the same effect, that’s why all his gained powers become Subterfuge in nature.

You know you could have just looked it up in the glossary as he is listed by name there too.  Wink

But since you asked nicely pg 144 near the last parts of the "The End Of Terrasanta" section.  It gives his class and rank and a little spill of how he is very prominent in Wiss.  The number was just some little fluff I added and likely not even associated with him.

Yeah I do it all the time as well.  Its the simplest of things many times that get in life. 

Anyhoo what do you think.  I'm still second guessing myself as to how much is he really worth level wise.  But the builds I run with his rules really are good, all of them even the lowly Azur Agent.

Boy its been rather dead in these homebrew thread of late.  Still I will forge on with one of the last two units I basically had done during the new year.  Just one more to go after this if I can stay motivated to nail down the fluff.   Roll Eyes  Roll Eyes  Roll Eyes

Lin Pao & Jiang Pao watched mesmerized by Princess Ziyi Zhang’s Butterfly Dance.  Even stoic Li Long adored her graceful moments & poetic interpretation of the music.  All failing to see the performances inclusion of the Ki techniques they had earlier exhibit before their dearest friend.  

Soon another student interrupted the proceedings with news that the Demon Squad is attacking the village.  Bidding the Princess a heartfelt goodbye The Three Dragons sprung into action!

“Princess, we must be on our way as well.  Your guards are awaiting you out front.”

“Chi Chi everything is ready I presume.  My beloved heroes will be confronting a great evil, all for the cause of truth, justice, & love!”

“Yes Princess, but with your deepest wishes they will prevail & bring peace once again.”  Chi Chi spoke as she gathered her mistress’s large cloak that glinted of the blades within.

Upon leaving the house the two guards bowed while opening the door.  “Princess Ziyi, what of your handmaiden Chi Chi?”

“She is to stay behind to report word of the outcome of the conflict.”  Princess softly spoke as she entered the Litter.

Up upon the rooftop stood a figure in white & golden silk dress.  “Yes I will be sending my deepest wishes…”  Princess Ziyi smiled as she lowered her pearl mask.

Fluff:  Dié Xing whose beauty shines through even her pearl mask, is a hero of the meek & defender of truth, justice, & love against all who would seek to destroy it.  Wielding twin jians, Dié Xing has shown up countless times to aid those in need & ally with the Three Dragons when the odds are most dire.  And while she is beloved by all she has helped, none save her faithful handmaiden know her true identity, that of the coy & innocent Princess Ziyi Zhang.  

Note:  This was one of the last units I thought up over Xmas break & was inspired by this Studio McVey figure Azumi.  Yeah I know she is more Lennet then Shivat in look but it was basically what I wanted.  I was always unimpressed with The Three Dragons even when Li Long finally came out and I had such high hopes for them.  So I geared Dié Xing (trying to mean Butterfly Star) to be useful both by herself and as a cheap warrior and in combo with any or all of the 3D.  Yet I needed her to be cheap so I tried to balance her in line with Lin Pao.  Not as defensive as Lin but can really shoot up wither her special dodge.  Her attack is meant to be a middle ground between Lin and Jiang while allowing her to move out of the way for other to charge in.  But most of all I was hoping she would be boost the values of all the other 3D with the AP recovery mechanic.  The fluff thinking behind this is Lin, Jiang, and even Li Long are all to some degree in love with Dié Xing and/or Princes Ziyi.  This has lead them to try to prefect all the motions of their martial arts in an effort to impress her.  Of course Dié Xing feels the same way and so not only do these characters have a lot of potential AP but possible can do even more by recovering AP by rolling high for their actions.  Oh and Butterfly Dance and Honorable Presence were both written to allow rolls that were adjusted up with say Bells of Luck instead of needing straight up rolls of 8, 9, or 10.

Finally my last of the holiday characters.  It is Church and while I don't expect much around here I still hope you all like.

Ignacio’s feet dug in a pair of trenches several feet long from the impact of the blow.  A blow that would have vanquished a lesser warrior, but Ignacio de La Roca, the Lord of the Knights of Argo was far from ordinary.

“Hahahaha!  So the Senorita is much more then some Empire doll swinging a big hammer.”  Lowering his shield the excitement of this exceptional challenger was obvious.  “Its been a long time since I’ve had to call upon my Lord to vanish an challenger.  And such a young lamb such as yourself…”

“Whatever!  Just bring your tired old butte over here so I can kick in & get this fight over!”  Erika shouted.

“Yes we should end this.”  The great knight spoke as he kneed down in prayer.

“Angel of God,
my guardian dear,
To whom His love
commits me here;
Ever this day
be at my side,
To light and guard,
to rule and guide.
Amen”

Erika could sense something changing.  Her opponent seem to become so vivid & calm.   Still this looked like the perfect opportunely to finish this contest.  

“Better start praying for I’m going to knock silly.”  Erika taunted as she winded up  for another massive blow.

The earth shook as the strike was perfect, even better then the one that knocked the Argo warrior just before.  Yet when the dust cleared he barely moved an inch!

“Now know the power of my Lord…”  Ignacio moved in with god-like speed & power.

Fluff: Lord of the Knights of Argo & cousin to King Guillermo Andreas II de La Rocha del Castillo y del Monte, Ignacio is a true champion of Christ.  Many have sought to test their skill against this crusader of the Lord & he has never backed down from a challenge.  But with his faith & skill he has yet to be defeated.

Note: Okay dokay this guy it likely very outside the concept of Church in A:T, as he is not part of the Saints Council, Inquisition, or Nathaniel, but a military man of Argo.  Yet I see Argo as Church’s military arm & while most of the soldiers are nowhere equal to those inside Church, there are far more of them & at least some of them should be as powerful.  Ignacio is a Paladin Lv 7 in the Gaia book, so I figured he would make a good tanky character.  I decided to toy with the idea of him having normal costing combat skills but then using Shield & Protection in a more direct way to give him sort of a blessed warrior boost.    Due to his relatively low Resistance I wanted something to help protect him but make it so he had to work to set it up, unless he used his one time boost, so Athleta Christi was born.  L&L is a variable attack and 4Pillars is for spam attackers.  Now with the aid of states, his other two offensive skills are cheap & powerful, with Shining Crusader being set up to blow threw speed bumps like Crystals and Ash Slaves.  A word on War Steed is that I was going to add a damage bonus but after looking at it I decided it was enough with throw and easier Overrun.

Like always if anyone wants to complain, question, or mock me I’m open to all comers.

Decided to drop this guy out of the leadership roll and make a super support unit for the undead.  So here is a re-work of this monster in human form.

“Containment Cells have been compromised!  All senior staff member to…”

Sergei strolled down the hallway, checking his log for his daily tasks, when he stopped in front of Cell 111.  With a smile he pulled out his keys & unlocked the door.  Hiding in the corner was a small girl no older then ten.  

“Newt my darling, it seems like it time for me to depart.  I suppose you’re rather expendable now, though it’s a shame with such a cute little doll such as you.”  The screams of those being slaughtered echoed from the hallway.

“Well I should tell you lil’Newt there are monster out there, real monsters.”  Sergei spoke in a hushed tone as he handed her a small surgical knife.

Then Sergei got up & left.  The door was wide open as he turned the corner, a horde zombies appearing at the other end of the hallway…

O Re-directive Code (Subterfuge, Effect)
Sergei must spend at least one Guidance Point to use this skill. One Friendly Undead unit within Sergei's Control Zone recovers an Action Point for each Guidance Point used with this skill.  Undead units are still restricted by their Influence Level to the amount of AP they can recover with Guidance Points a turn.

This skill may be used when any unit that dies within Sergei’s Control Zone.  Choose an Undead type below & make the corresponding Difficulty Check.  If successful place that type of Undead with no modifications within Sergei’s Control Zone at the start of the next Recovery Phase.  Sergei cannot use this skill if he is engaged with an Enemy unit or if the unit that was killed was Undead.

Note: I've kinda of see him as the Evangeline supporter to the Undead.

Alright, a new thread! On to the commentary:

First off, excellent character fluff as usual.

Locerot Greim
Love the character concept but I think both Art of Distraction and Deep Cover have problems. I see Art of Distraction as problematic as it has exceptions to its exception and as an ability it just seems kind of a tacked on solution to having to maintain Upkeep two abilities at once. Also I'm not sure exactly how arriving via Infiltration would play out with this ability and trying to enter with both abilities active.

While Deep Cover avoids the shenanigans found with Al-Djinn’s Ash Slave & Absolute Change skills, it also creates its own hiccups. The first is as a 3 AP ability that requires Upkeep is he is going to be stretched very thin on AP while also activating or Upkeeping Stealth, even if he receives help from Haste (via The Process). Another is that being allowed 25 levels worth of options essentially grants Locerot every skill option available (or useful) to him from those skill cards. Directly related this makes is the high likelihood Locerot will be running around with an Attack value of 7! Another issue is that changing Unit Type and/or Faction mid-game directly impacts his eligibility for a variety of Advantage cards. Connect in with this, if he is changing character types why change the ability types to Subterfuge? From my view point it unnecessarily complicates things with a net result of neutering him completely against Intangible units.

While I will definitely suggest reducing Locerot's base Attack value to 5, I'm not really sure on the best fix for the rest of the issues as Deep Cover's strength is it vast flexibility but "copy cat" characters are very tricky to balance (as has been seen with the Al-Djinn).  Undecided

On a positive note, I really like Decoy as an Advantage Card.

Dié Xing
For 35 Levels her stats look reasonable and Blade Ballet looks good. For Butterfly Dance you really should specify that it's the die roll that has to be 10+ because as it is written it could be interpreted as working on working on die roll of 5+ for any Attack.  Tongue For White Crane I would tweak the cost reduction to being reliant on the dodge actually being successful otherwise its a little too good for her Level cost. Honorable Presence is potentially problematic when you have any of the Three Dragons on both teams; would both sides receive an action point or whose characters take precedence?

As for Beautiful Ally, I am not really sold on shoe-horning another character into an established team, especially as Wanderers. I understand that the Three Dragons are kind of sub-par for a Team but the three for the price of one Wanderer slot grants quite a bit of flexibility and is already very advantageous to certain Organizations without adding a fourth into the mix. Realistically the Team card or characters needs to be revised as I not sure even Dié Xing's improvements could justify the 160 Levels it would take to field all four characters. I think a better option, that would still allow her to breathe new life into old characters, would be for her to be able to team up individually with any of the characters from Three Dragons. If you did so, I think you could combine Honorable Presence and Beautiful Ally into one ability.

Overall I really like the character, I just don't think she should the fourth member of the Three Dragons. As for the Equipment card Dual Weapons, I think it really cool but maybe too cheap at 10 Levels. Not being part of a Chain Attack and being able to be activated twice per turn are both pretty huge bonuses that I would drop to keep it at its current cost.

While I still have a few worries that he might work a little too well with a support heavy organization like Church, overall I see Ignacio as a solid beat-stick with a balanced set of abilities. Shining Crusader is the only one of his abilities that really gives me pause as it goes against characters blocking LOS and allows/forces characters to free move away from an enemy action. That said, unless Ignacio manages to Run Over an "intercepting" character it wouldn't actually end up different than any other charge. Going along with that thought is I think War Steed is under priced as an Equipment card; granting Throw alone would probably be worth 10 Levels. Otherwise I really like the card as is though I do think it's funny to imagine Veronica stealing someone's horse out from under them.  Tongue

Sergei Colbert
Looks pretty solid overall with some very unique and characterful support abilities. I do have a few questions and suggestions: Does Experimental Prototypes stay in effect after Sergei dies? (If so wouldn't this better served as a Plot card?) For Mobile Arcane Surgical Hospice the second to last line seems a little unclear on whether the +1 to the roll is meant as a bonus or a negative? As written, it appears as a bonus but I would think it should make the check harder (or not even be allowed for Undead units to prevent endless recycling). For Re-directive Code I would change the first line to: Sergei must spend at least one Guidance Point to use this skill. This would make it clearer that Sergei is allowed to use multiple Guidance Points with this skill, which I believe is your actual intent.

The only real big change I would suggest for Sergei would be to drop Advanced Protocols. Given his Hard Coded ID, an Out of Control unit doesn't particularly pose a threat to Sergei but more importantly there are already several established ways to counter act Uncontrollable including Guidance Points and the Type-005 and Type-009 Commander Models. I feel Advanced Protocols is unnecessary on Sergei and it would weaken a balancing element for the various Undead types.

spacemonkey: Welcome back!  Well I figured Locerot Greim needed some adjustment so her goes.  I've gone with the mantra of K.I.S.S.  

So I trimmed both Art of Distraction & Deep Cover.  Less is more I hope, taking out the deployment rules for Art of Distraction but adding it working for both Stealth and Deep Cover so having two Upkeep won't be so bad.

Taking out the convert stuff to Subterfuge but I had done that to show he is using smoke and mirrors to make it look like he had the same Magic or Ki skills as real agent but not really.  On another note I figure he already has the +10 level bonus to AP regen so I cut down his options to 15 levels worth.  Also place a restriction of it only workable after he deploys so it won't conflict with Infiltration.

As for the Attack Value I'm sorta going with Rayne style stats so high attack low damage.

Dié Xing
Clarified both Butterfly Dance and Honorable Presence so they know its the roll and only works with Friendly Dié Xing.  Did slightly improve them since I trimmed down Beautiful Ally.  Beautiful Ally removed all the include as an alley stuff which makes it tough for her to be included in most Org parties, but now she can help out with Double Dragon.  She now sorta of an insurance policy so you get a chance to use those special without it getting blown out of the water with just one of the Pao's being killed off.  That was my main problem with 3D team.  Oh and thanks for reminding my of The White Crane requirement as it was a last minute change form a cuminative defense bonus to the extra die action cost reduction.

Oh and Dual Weapons has been limited to one free attack per turn.  I almost changed when I first put it down but then thought I'll see if its a little to over powered or not.

Yeah I know his tailored made for Church with Evangeline giving him Shield anywhere on the battle field, Gemni giving either if he is close by, and the Church Agent popping him for both if you take that option.  I kind of see Church working that way in having the strongest synergy between units then any of the other Org.  But what would you think if I changed or dropped Sacrament of Penance.  That way he would need those support unit more then ever to power up his cheap attacks.  Oh and Shining Crusader was done in the way Hunter and Goethia break rules in not needing LOS to the target.  I tried to make sure it was clear what rule is being broken and that due to that exception how enemy units can also break the rules.  I tried to be as clear in this exception, so it can be a blockage buster against Ash Slaves and Crystals.

War Stead was bumped up to 15 levels but might just drop it back to 10 and trimming off the Over Run stuff.

Fluff:
Dietrich (or at least how he calls himself nowadays) was one of Jurgand agents. After one of his more gruesome missions he lost faith in cause he was fighting for. That made him decided to leave Imperium, but that was only  possible after complete memory wipe. Without second thoughts he decided to discard a man he was. Trouble is even not being one of agents of Jurgand his will is just too strong for his own good, sometimes he is able to uncover some of his lost memories. During periods like that he recalls some memories and experiences of his times of Jurgand but at terrible cost of his own sanity.

Welcome aboard it is always great to have more people here.

Well lets see Dietrich is an interesting idea that at the moment I would say suffers from a few timing questions.  Stat-wise he is very underpowered except for LP.  That might be best if it came down to at least 30 LP, given that he is not a Damage Resistance creature allowing him to dodge reducing most damage to him & him having sorta healing if I miss special skill.  Both together will still make him a pain to take down compared to say a Gear or anything else in that LP range.

Might I suggest

Out of This World: Dietrich can reduction the cost for any one Defensive Action once each turn.  

This would allow Dietrich to chose when and how he uses this special.  So he can use it for a free dodge or allow him to whip out a surprise counter-attack at only OOAP.

Forced Zeal should be at least 3AP or a straight up Attack instead of a charge.  Given that even at 5 LP sacrifice its a charge and self buff that triggers on a failure.  So if your going to have a supplanting skill (specials that make the basic version obsolete) it really should only be equal in cost or have better restrictions like XII combo charge and attack with require an more expensive ranged attack to start.

True Zeal should come down to 2AP, and while I understand the concept of it being a key to free Painful Memories.  5AP skill should be able to stand on their own right as super powerful.  True Zeal isn't that powerful even if PM is up you looking at a 8 Att / 5 Dam over priced charge that is useless once PM is up.  Lowering the cost will make it an option even if PM is up.  If your worried about unbalanced I would change the bonus PM trigger to if he gets a Critical Hit instead of cause damage.  This is more risk balance then just damage that he could get just charging a DR creature or crystal.

Painful Memories I wondering how long it lasts and when can I make the LP sacrifice?  If its for the rest of the game I would change the wording to:


Painful Memories: Dietrich can sacrifice 20 Life Points as a Free Action to gain the following for the rest of the game:  
•   +3/+3 attack/damage
•   +2/+2 movement
•   +1 AP recovery
•   Critical Mastery

Now I know that last part might be fluff but if your going to potentially be losing that much LP he should be gaining all buff and no penalties.  Plus fluff wise isn't it enough that he taking half or more damage?

Like I said its a nice concept of a delayed beat stick but I'm thinking it need a few tweaks.

Okay I wasn't expecting to finish this one up but for some reason I really got on a roll so here is another "little" Samael girl.

It was warm like a spa as young girl seemed to drift into haze.  She could feel her hot life force running out her body.  The beautiful Lady Artois was in front of her laughing as she sipped wine.  Leaning back in a dark crimson pool with rose petal gathering around her arms, knees, & neck as she smiled a cruel smile.

“I see you have a fresh companion tonight” a dark smooth voice called out from somewhere in the room.

“She is but a sheep, a pleasant surprise gift from Alba’s mistress.  You are my one & only companion, my Dark Cheshire” the Lady Artois raised her glass as streaks of crimson ran down her arm.

A handsome man with dark memorizing eyes entered the dying girls view.  He leaned over to speak softly into Lady Artois ear.  “But from destruction, beauty.  And from beauty, blood.”

Those were the last words the girl heard & the last vision was that of handsome man ripping out the throat of Lady Artois.

Soon the breaking dawn came & with it rising out of the crimson bath a new life.

"Ah, my sweet Lady, I see you've finally been reborn." Dark Cheshire bowed.

This form was so alien as blood continuously shifted into the air as if weightless.

The girl could only question "Who...NO WHAT AM I!"

Notes: Here is another unit I pulled from both Those That Walk Among Us and Dominus Exxet.  Originally she was going to have a huge weaken in that she was all sacrifice and no way to recover, aka Kingley Syndrome.  But looking at Blood Stone being such a overpriced advantage that would work wonders here and looking like she was going to use two cards anyways I basically put in a usable version on her.  Pretty much the rest of the stuff on the first card is how I converted straight for the entry of Blood Rose or Red Queen.  Depending on how much she wants to sacrifice she can become a real dangerous beat stick.  Now Sanguinius ability detailed in TTWAU I envision as Samael’s version of possession ability Church has with Azur and Empire having lesser versions.  Its still hard to do and very costly but it can be game changing if pulled off en masse.  Now the second card is almost straight from the Ki book and I almost add a few more techniques from that tree but decided there was already enough going on.  One final note on the fluff, I originally had Kerberos ripping out Lady Artios throat since it is rumored the virus that makes Blood Roses is caused by Vampires or Vetala.  But at the last minute I wanted a better connect to Samael without writing more story.

Thanks for the feedback Ape. I applied some for your suggestion. I decided that he will sacrifice more that half of the total LP. It will be more fair that way. Somebody may use his Painful Memories at the beginning of the combat and use time when enemy approaches to heal Dietrich.

A propos your most recent creation. I think characters with higher lvl should ignore Body of Blood rule as well. Just a suggestion.
