Hey folks, I'm about to play Anima for my first time ever, and I'm working on putting together a Wizard character. However, I've been having trouble understanding exactly what the limits are on my spell knowledge. Hopefully, someone can clarify this situation for me:

If my character has an Intelligence of 9, that gives her a Magic Level of 40. Now, say I take the advantage Natural Knowledge of a Path (Creation), which gives me an innate 40 levels in Creation magic—can I then spend my normal 40 Magic Levels to raise that to an 80 in Creation, or does my 9 Intelligence limit me to a maximum of 40 in any one school of magic?

you can spend your 40 from int. freely. Also, I seem to remember AS said in an old thread that you can spend the 40 you got from Natural Knowledge for picking single spells, though I could be wrong.

I always ruled it that you can spend your Int based points on top of the Natural Knowledge of a Path levels given.  Personally I view the "Natural Knowledge" levels as something innate that the character simply understands how to access, as though it flows from them either do to an ancient wizarding bloodline, supernatural contact at an early age, or the like.  Then, with the years of study that mages normally undergo they can improve upon these natural skills to make them even better.

Although you should probably check with your GM, as they may interpret it differently then I do  Tongue

You might want to check out the 'Supernatural Abilities' section of the Gamemaster's Toolkit on page 15. While it doesn't directly answer your question about Innate Magic it does provide useful guidelines on how many Magic Levels you can spend on spells (as well as other supernatural abilities). I use the Medium range in my game and its worked well so far.

Yes you can spend your spell levels to increase your abilities in Creation. If the GM allows you to spend all 40 of your spell levels you can get 80 in Creation.

I have much advice I could give on the subject of wizards (they are my speciality), but there are no limits in the official rules of how high your spell levels in a book can be at level one. If you have access to the GM toolkit you should look at it, especially at an advantage called "Opposite Magic", and it does suggest some limitations, but they are optional.
