I'm not sure how magic and sherlock Holmes is relevant. I'd say he's a freelancer with reduced intellectual field but thats just me.

The Anima Character Guidebook has a Sherlock Holmes style character, called Sassa Holmberg (link to the book is in my signature)

It's not a magic user, though.

If you want to go with magic, I'd say Air, Illusion or Essence would fit well.

Illusion for detect lie / pierce illusions / etc.

but a Sherlock Holmes character with magic is most certainly not based on any of the books.  A true based on the books Sherlock Holmes would be a freelancer with two Aptitude in a Field (Perceptive, Intellectual) and whatever 1 point disadvantage you feel is appropriate, like susceptibility to magic might be a good one.

Addiction: Cocaine might be a good one as well.

Also the problem is that every time someone pulls such a combo he gets killed by some kind of Lazarus or such.

Knowledge sub-path from Arcana Exxet. A daily spell that let you know whether people who fail a magical resistance are lying or not is great.
Sadly, it can't combine with Illusion
