This also means that Sagittarius+Capricorn=most stupid awesome thing ever. just 200+ crits to everything in sight all day.

nah you can't combine Sagittarius and Capricorn to get 200+ crits.  If you're using the original statistics of the weapon, you don't get the Sagittarius benefits.

You do get the special abilities from sagittarius magister tho, and capricorn can get 200+ crits all by itself.

the special abilities of Sagittarius and Sagittarius Magister are tied to the statistics of Sagittarius.  If you're not using the statistics of Sagittarius, you can't get the special abilities.

alphawhelp, for the sake of justice I have to say that most likely you were right about quality bonus being part of the Base Damage. I just re-read the Impossible weapons Ars Magnuses and they are strongly pointing at this.
