Anna Never's passive ability
The One: You cannot spend Gnosis to improve any roll made by Anna. However, Anna rolls an additional dice an keeps the highest when making any roll.

It says highest result, but this would be bad for things like doom then, is this intended so that when rolling for doom does Anna only has a 36% chance of surviving? Or should the lower of the two results be taken in this situation such that she has a 84% chance of surviving?

additionally
oooo — Infinity Requiem (Ki, Attack)
+1 Attack / +2 Damage. You may spend any amount of Gnosis that you wish when making the attack. Anna makes an additional Infinity Requiem attack with the same target as the first one for each Gnosis point spent when making this attack (up to 2 Gnosis points).

which is it any number of Gnosis or up to 2 Gnosis?

That's yet to be clarified, I think. Going strictly by the wording, she has a high chance of dying from Doom, and isn't worth putting cards like Vision or Protective Shield on.

Any number up to 2. Smiley It seems to be a badly edited paragraph.

No; Doom is not considered a roll that she mades.

...what?  Undecided I can almost see the reasoning there, but in that case - what other rolls does a character "not make"?
  • Rolls to see if an Advantage Card is removed (Vision, Protective Shield)?
  • Escape rolls?
  • Falling Damage?
  • Avoiding a Collision?
  • Effect rolls?
  • Difficulty rolls?
  • Seek rolls?

Your ruling means that Al Djinn won't stop characters using Gnosis on Doom rolls if they are within Al Djinn's Control Zone. It's therefore vital to know which rolls are "made BY the character" and which are "made FOR the character".

This is the sort of thing that really needs a clear explanation in the next rule book. There is too much stuff that relies on case-by-case exceptions determined by logic only their creator understands!

And that also means that since she doesn't make the roll for Doom, based on the wording of the One, she can use Gnosis to resist it. Huh

To be devils advocate, Seek, Effect, Escape and Difficulty are all specified as being made by the character, that much I remember (Seek in particular can be modified by the character making the roll, e.g. Dead Eyes). Otherwise I agree completely.

Doom might just be a special case (but I don't have the book to hand and can't remember how it is worded) because it's not the character affecting the token, it's the token affecting the character - you are seeing if the Doom token kills the character, not if the character can resist being killed by the token.

So you cannot spend Gnosis to affect Doom?

No, you can normally spend Gnosis on any dice roll, not just ones made by characters. The exact intent becomes important in this case because Anna is the first character to draw a distinction between which of her rolls can be affected by Gnosis, and which are affected by her Innate Ability.

It appears to me that a player can use gnosis on their own rolls only.

From the Web Addendum

Quote
A player can use a Gnosis point to improve ANY kind of roll. The player simply rolls an extra die and chooses the best result.

While translation failures may no doubt be involved, it speaks about adding a die to a roll you're making.

Arguably, for those who like to quibble, you could spend Gnosis on an opponent's roll.

They would then roll an extra dice, and because they were the ones rolling (as they would be the only ones able to 'roll an extra die'), they would get to choose the best result from their perspective.

It would be far from the best way to spend your Gnosis.

I assume "The One" is supposed to say; "pick the die" since it was meant to reflect her getting a Gnosis die on everything she does.

But that's not Gnosis as it's not affected by the Elienai.
