I;ve been thinking about making a new guy that is focused on support, i like that phycics can keep using ability over and over, plus can gett better results just by being lucky/powerful, while wizards seem to have a wide aray of healing, protective and other support spells(creation im looking at you) so i was thinking about making a wizard mentalist and investing all my dp into magic+psionics. what is the big drawbacks or this and how would i do it best?

The big drawbacks as I see them might include:

1) If you get attacked with something you can't block with Magic/Psionics, and have to dodge, you're screwed.
2) If you fight someone that can block supernatural powers (eg a Nemesis user) or somewhere where they don't work as well (eg the Inner Sea), again, you're screwed.
3) You will have no secondaries, so you're really limited on what you can do out of combat.

if you want to be support, i'd suggest picking up the Peace and War Sub-Paths.

if you want to be support, i'd suggest picking up the Peace and War Sub-Paths.

Indeed, with the War and Peace sub-paths you'd be able to conjure hundreds of supporters, but the amount of effort required to go through the entire power of War and Peace would be massive.  You'd also need the Literature sub-path.  (Okay, end of joke.)

Honestly, several of the sub-paths are useful, including Literature.  In fact, the Literature sub-path makes an excellent support path for its ability to send messages, create journals, and alter causation.  Theater of Life, Compendium, and Playwright are the very definition of "toolbox" powers, especially Playright.

I really really do not recommend the Wizard Mentalist.  It's a terrible class due to a lack of a module that lets you use Magic Projection as Psychic Projection or vice versa.  Wizard Mentalist require a higher DP investment in Primary abilities than any other class, and won't be as good at what they do than any of the other mixed classes, like Warlock or Warrior Mentalist.

If you want to buff people, I suggest playing a Wizard.  War & Peace sub paths are good, but so is Creation Magic.

Mentalist buffing is pretty limited and pales in comparison to Wizard buffing.

Psychics stand midway between dominos and wizards in terms of their toolbox characteristics.  Magic is the primary source of toolbox powers - psychic powers have a lot of useful goodies, but they're only really useful for the psychic himself.

As I personally have a great fondness for noncombat toolbox characters, I heartily reccomend the Illusionist for a toolkit character.  You could go Creation and/or Essence, with one or two Sub-Paths.

Another option, if you're going to focus more on Secondary Abilities, is to play a Natural Mage.  (Also from Arcana Exxet.)  This is a good option if your magic is intended to be a "minor support" type of benefit rather than a "major power."  Natural Mages don't have spells, and don't progress on the paths - instead, they "ad lib" their powers.  There's a rather difficult Power roll involved - the more Zeon you spend, the easier the roll becomes.

Natural Mages seem a little gimpy, and they are.  However, they have vastly more versatility than any other type of mage, so where they lack for power they make up in "there's an app for that."  You can further augment their powers with metamagic.  Although a number of the metamagic spheres are of no help at all (and a few explicitly say as much), many of them are massively helpful (I'm looking at you, Empowered Shields and Defined Magic Projection).

Of course, all of this is in Arcana Exxet, so you might want to pick that up to really fill your toolbox full of goodies.  It also has psychic powers.  Honestly, if you want a psychic toolbox, I'd suggest going pure Mentalist or Mentalist Warrior.  Keep in mind, you're gonna be concentrating a lot on it.  The best thing that mentalists get out of their toolbox is sensing.  As telemetry platforms, nothing beats a psychic.

Got my copy here. Pretty good service, they replied quickly when I tried to contact them about an error I made while filling out the billing form.  https://www.scifigenre.com/itemDetail.aspx?sid=GR2UQJN1VOOVIKM&nItemID=118833
