Well - this is the second thread in the last few days where people have argued the pros and cons of Raphael's Gift. Looks like there are loads of people who think it's the best thing ever, and loads of others (myself included) who think there are better things to spend your points on. But I didn't post to get involved in that debate again, I wanted to reference another comment:

Quote
Often you will find life points, or damage is the factor which changes the combat.

Don't spend to much on Advantage cards. Its almost always better to have an extra minis or a more powerful minis. So do try that first before considering advantage cards.

Hopefully that mentality will change, afterall, Advantage cards are an important an colorful part of Anima Tactics.

I couldn't agree more with the opinion to consider more troops before considering more items. I think Advantage cards should be used very little. I think it is always better to have more members in your team then it is to have lots of equipment. One of my biggest bugbears in Warhammer are the uber-heroes who just stack up with as many magic weapons as possible. I much prefer to see an Anima team with a good range of characters and just one or two advantage cards that really play to their strengths (I hate the thought of a team where every player has supernatural weapon or supernatural armour or Raphael's Gift).

Revealing a magic item at a choice moment that swings things in your favour can be the highlight of a game, but when someone reveals a magic item every time a dice is rolled or someone enters combat, it can become quite dull.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I don't intend on spending a large sum of points on equipment every time I play, I just wanted to know what was best situationally for certain characters.

I agree that having more characters would be better then equipment, although this is a game about heroes rather then armies. (Unlike Warhammer)

I ask about equipment because I would like to know what to spend leftover points on when I don't have enough for an extra character, or don't have an extra character avaliable.

I can definetly see the advantage of Raphaela's gift on a character that absorbs alot of damage like Kronen, but I agree that it isn't very useful on most characters.

Cloak of Chronos is definetly looking attractive to me, being able to pull out an extra action point to dodge, or perform a special attack can mean the game when used at the right time.

The same could be said for Destiny, having a solid number instead of a role can win you fights that would be close otherwise.

Thinking of using Kronen, Claire, Evangaline, and Tsubasa for as a team until I get Yuri and maybe Daniella (or whenever the Black Lion of Abel is avaliable), that way I can have a ranged attack from Tsubasa, who is a pretty solid character himself, without having access to Daniella yet. Then I would fill out the leftover points (10?) with equipment.

Edit: Just read through the Lion Green thread again, AS says that the Lion is a level 50 unit  Cool

Thought I'd give a status update on how my Empire building has been going.  Wink

I now own Claire, Yuri, Daniella, and Kronen for the Empire faction, don't plan on getting any of the remaining members of the Empire until Samiel and Vayl come out.

Still have Evangaline and Tsubasa as filler for when I play light instead of Empire.

So far I have been sticking to 150 point games and experimenting with the different characters.

So far, I have found that Kronen + Raphaela's gift takes FOREVER to kill, unless he gets pasted with some nasty status effects (such as Doom or Paralyze), but I have also found he is quite unreliable on the offense, as his low accuracy and lack of offensive skill rears its ugly head. He makes a great interceptor for the rest of the team, but he definetly can't lead the charge.

Claire is an offensive beast, I have found that when she gets the charge, she wins the fight easily due to her abilities, and she rarely misses. Getting her in posistion can be tricky, especially when your opponent knows how dangerous she is, and they will attempt to charge her first, but I do my best to buddy her up with Kronen so he can intercept for her, and then she can set herself up to charge whoever is in her range. Her one time ranged attack is also great for 1 shotting un-shielded support, and well worth her hit in damage to take out nasty characters like Bael, who is the bane of all Empire soldiers.

Yuri, although I have only used him without leadership abilities (houseruled), he has proven quite solid, his various passive abilities make him a strong warrior, and Queen's round is quite accurate, if not quite as damaging as I would like.(Haven't rolled a critical yet Cry ) His King's tower has proven to be a lifesaver against charging opponents, it definetly makes it much easier for characters to withstand powerful charging abilities. Hope I get to use him at his full capacity someday soon.  Grin

Sadly, I haven't gotten to use Daniella yet, but looking at her abilities, she seems quite nasty, and I imagine the enemy will find her quite frustrating to deal with due to her Advanced Deployment and Accuracy. Not to mention she can easily turn the tide of a battle with her Seal ability.

Evangaline has seen alot of use with my Empire warriors, Bless is a great passive bonus, and Holy Armor has made Kronen close to unstoppable in certain games. She is quite vulnerable though, and in small point games it can be quite annoying defending her, especially against the likes of Harod, but she is well worth the effort.

I have found that status effects are really a big problem for the Empire with their low Resistance score, but Daniella helps deal with that problem with her anti-caster abilities, or at least I hope it does.

Doom and Paralyze are definetly NOT some of my favorite things.

Sounds good, but bear in mind having Evangeline there in a Light team is going to be very different from a real Empire team.

I think when you have a real Empire team you will want Khaine as a support character and another tank like Duncan or maybe even Janus.

Shame I really hate Khaine's model, so I don't plan on using her.  Undecided

Not really to concerned about getting picking up Duncan or Janus at this point, as I'm patient enough to wait on Samiel, and use Tsubasa as an extra tank until then.

Also interested on how Vayl will effect the Empire Team-Game.

Khaine is not a real Empire model; it is an errata.

Hello,

Khaine Wanderer?
Curious, because of her background and overall design I can't really imagine her working for Samael nor Wissenschaft.
Maybe there is some restrictions we already don't know for Wanderers in Organizations? (Like some Mercenaries mini in Helldorado or Warmachine who can't work for all factions but only of two or three).
In fact that make some time I think that because I can't imagine Akio working for Church ^^U

Interesting, I'll have to make a mental note of that.

Always thought she looked and felt Church myself.

Wait, is this official?  Should I move Khaine on the faction roster, and add a note?

I would assume so, since AS said so.  Lips sealed

Pretty big change for people who rely on Khaine + another Wanderer for their Empire team.

What? Kaine's a Wanderer. o.O Wow, that changes a lot.

I can use her in my Wissen team to take damage for my fragile girls. Awesome!  Grin

Wanderer.

That blows my mind.  So in some sense, she's like Kujaku.  A light aligned Wanderer.  Crazy.

Khaine D’Lacreu
Quote
Khaine D’Lacreu is a holy warrior, a soldier of the Empire and a champion of the Light. Her purity and her ferocious skill with a blade make her the terror of creatures of Darkness everywhere.

Can you confirm again AS that Khaine D'Lacreu is supposed to be a wanderer? It flies in the face of what is posted on Phil D's blog as the character background .pdf and the character backstory.

Just want to make sure there hasn't been any confusion or mistake because it is a very surprising piece of news to me. It is a pretty big and long standing errate if it is true.
