I'm from Portland, OR in the US.

I've got Both Starter Boxes and have never played a game. I'm making my way through the rules and plan on getting in a game in the near future.

Saga 1 & Saga 2 - I get the picture that Saga 1 is the first complete set of characters and rules. Saga 2 is the release of new characters and rules edits, clarifications, etc.

US rule book? Any guess-timate on when it will be published. I assume the rule book is out in other languages?

I'd like some feedback on what to get, I can pick up 4 characters. I'd like to get the most bang for my buck. Be able to change things up, not worried about killer combo but making the most out of what 8 characters I'll end up with. Making Light Armies, Making Dark Armies, Making faction squads. I'll come up with a list but wouldn't mind input.

Think that's about it for now?

Well one character for sure is Dereck he's a total powerhouse and he's a neutral character. If you prefer heavy armor and heavy hitting empire and light character are up to the task. Dark character are more strategic because of their many bad status. Alessa Raincross in dark is also a good choice. Kujaku Hime and Tankanosuke are awesome and great synergy.

Light characters has nice armor and you have a leader, the best healer in the game so far, a archer and a lance user. so far the light side has a lot of armor crushing people.

I'd say grab Bael for your Dark team, she adds a "dark" mirror to Evangaline's role in the light team in being offensive support, not to mention she is Samael, which lets you make a solid Sameal team.

For the Light team I'd grab either Claire or Daniella, both offer more mobility to the light starter, and Claire is offensive to Kronen's defensive, while Daniella is long range to Kronen's short.

If you feel like it, you could grab both.  Grin

Derreck Shezzard is a good Nuetral, as he is a powerhouse, but Tsubasa is another solid choice, as is Faust, any one of those would work.

So....

Dark: Bael (Status)
Light: Claire (Offensive) and/or Daniella (Ranged)
Nuetral: Derreck Shezzard (Powerhouse), Tsubasa (Flexible), or Faust (Anti-armor Powerhouse)

Kairos and Azriel are also personal favorites of mine on the Dark side, Kairos is also Samael(like Bael, Ayl, and Chesire), while Azriel is Church(like Evangaline).

When considering models for Light or Dark, consider their factions, as some Dark/Light characters are the same faction, and thus can form a faction team. (Janiela and Aoi are Samael, and mesh well with the Dark members of the same Faction).

It is also up to personal tastes in models, but these are just some of my favorites.  Wink

Let me answer you your two first questions no one has answered yet.

Saga 1 & Saga 2 - I get the picture that Saga 1 is the first complete set of characters and rules. Saga 2 is the release of new characters and rules edits, clarifications, etc.

Saga 1 is the current set of characters. It's been so much talk about what can be considered as Saga 2 and what as Saga 1, but the last official statement done says that Saga 1 comprises the first 40 characters and Saga 2 another 40 miniatures more.

Wrong, the book has not been released yet in any language. Whenever it happens, it is sure that it will have several multilingual versions, english being amongst the first ones. Currently there is not any release date.

There are also several starter warbands and other "What to get first" topics around ehre all of which have good and solid answers along with strategy and tactic tips sometimes.

Here are some options to definitely consider:

Janiel: Who can be played in light faction or Samael organization. This lets you organize light side or organization play.

Takanosuke: He can be played as unaligned for either light or dark, as a wanderer with an organization group, or he has an advantage card that changes his powers and makes him into a dark unit. This gives lots of play options and is the only neutral character with stealth.

Celia & Dereck Shezard go well together as a team for faction play. You also can split them up to either force or pick one as a wanderer. I pick them together because Celia has Neokinesis Magnus and is one of the characters that Dereck actually synergizes with well. Dereck is powerful but I find his powers don't emphasize many teams except for Neokinesis teams. Be warned that they cost a hefty amount of points and this really impacts team composition.

Faust Orbatos, Tsubasa Kurokami, and Feng Yi are all great stand alone characters it wouldn't hurt to pick up as well. You could play them with either group but they don't synergize as well. Aoi Inukai is another great character for the Samael group, but on the light faction group it would just put too much emphasis on support characters and not give you enough fighters.

In the long term I recommend figuring out exactly what you do want to play and build the specific composition force for it.
