It depends what you're going for.  The first post of this thread might help:

http://www.edgeent.com/animaforum/index.php?topic=453.0

There are two ways to make armies in this game.  You can go for Light and Dark, or you can go for Organizations.  Light and Dark have simple rules- You can make your army however you like, except that you cannot use both Light and Dark characters in the same army.  For Organizations, things are a little different.  An Organization army must use all figures from the same organization, except for one figure which may be a Wanderer, or a team of Wanderers (teams have team cards, there's only one Wanderer team so far).  Organization lists may mix Light and Dark characters freely, as long as the other rules are followed.

So, without knowing what you're really trying to create, its hard to tell you what to get.  I'll just give you two bits of advice.

1. You want more characters who can fight well than supporters.  Supporters are icing, but fighter types are the cake.
2. Standard army size is 300 levels.

Well first of all, there's like two ways of building your war band.

1) Your characters must be either Light or Dark and can include Neutral Character

2) Your characters may all be of the same faction and can include one neutral character (Samael, Church, Azur Alliance, Wissencraft and Empire).

Dark Starter is a good start for Samael faction since the 2 are from Samael. Get Bael and you got a nice start for Samael Faction.

Light Starter have a Church and Empire character so I would be good to go in light faction character.

Neutral choice, well everyone here agree that Dereck Shezzard is a must have.

Remember that in these kinda of games to go for those who you like better. Since you'll enjoy seeing them.

Are dark and light what you want to play for sure?

You can also play an organization which more and more of us are starting to. Right now the two organizations to play are Church and Samael, but I'm sure Empire and Azur Alliance will quickly be up on that list as well.

I would also ask what your play style is? Are you a straight forward like to charge in and beat them up fighter? Do you like to be sneaky? Do you prefer keeping your opponent at bay and killing them from a safe distance? Do you like to overwhelm your opponent with attacks?

Every character so far in Anima is good, there are no bad figures just ones that are bad to take for the strategy you want to use.

Darknight - http://phildeb.wordpress.com/ is full of fantastic goodies, including scans of all the cards, greens for forthcoming minis, etc.

Well worth looking at.

Though it should be noted that the Unofficial blog site is not current with all the cards, but it should have most of what will be available to your store.

here is a direct link to the character part of the page.

Since you are going to get both starters and 4 extras I would recommend 4 Neutrals.

This would enable you to mix around the 4 extras as you see fit and try out the game with different setups. I would recommend netural wanderers as well, since you can fit those into faction based and organization based parties. If you want to get into Samael, Bael is a must have imho and Kairos would be a nice addition, too. Picking up those two characters would also mean, it would still be a dark faction party meaning you could fill it up with neutrals.

In short: I would recommend neutral wanderers as the extras, since you have the maximum amount of flexibility party-building wise with those and can use them, not matter what kind of party you are going to play later on.

Hope that helps.

PS: If you give us a short statement about your playstyle or which figures you like we might give you a tip or two what we think will work with that.

mmm, play style, well most of the time i am quite aggressive, but i have my defensive moments too, i guess i play as the situation unfolds, changing where need be, kay, on the other hand usually plays more defensive.
i think bael and hel, struck me as nice minis so wanted those, but wanted them as i liked the minis.
that was the idea originally to buy the 2 starters and 4 neutrals, which are the wanderers? as akio was the only one i saw that said wandering, or is that a collective name for the neutrals?
we liked faust,tsubasa,claire,alis

Ok let's see if I can help you:

First to your question: "Wanderers" is a kind of organizatin. In fact Wanderers are the characters who belong to no organization and have the word wanderer in place of the affiliation name for that organization.
They used to be all neutral until Princeass Kojaku Hime came out, but there are netural non-wanderers too.

The wanderers so far are:
Princess Kojaku Hime
Takanosuke
Akio Kageshima
Faust Orbatus
Tsubasa Kurokami
Sophia Ilmora
Lin Pao
Jiang Pao
Dereck Shezzard

As you can see Faist and Tsubasa are both wanderers and they are pretty good fighters, too. You can add them to any of the two starters and get a team with a good offensive punch imho. Tsubasa special counterstrike and Fausts "Scorpion Grip" ability and his high armour make them both useful in a defensive approach, too.
The advantage card of Faust gives +1 armor at +10 levels which can be nice but is a bit priecy imho. The advantage card Tsubasa comes with is the Nullifier which will negate all positive stats nearby. this can be great, especially against a light team with a supporter that buffs (i.e. All light supporters to a certain degree).

Claire and Alis are both light and combat-oriented so they get along well with the light starter. Especially since Alis is Church and Claire is empire. That means you would have two of both organizations with the light starter - A good springboard for a party based on one of those organizations.

Now for Bael and Hel. First of all: Get the minis you like. If you can get them into the same party chances are you can take this army to the field sucessfully in Anima: Tactics.
Bael and Hel are both dark and would make a sneaky dark team with lots of abilities to use when combined with the dark starter. Hel would add to the two characters in the dark starter to form a team of three hard hitting Fighters with low armor who have interesting and varied attack skills. Bael will use her talents to either lend range support or debuffs to the mix and thus help the party. The advantage card Bael comes with is good for that.
Additionally Bael is also a member of Samael, like both characters in the dark starter and you will have a solid Samael team with these three if you want to take that direction.

So my recommendations from your previous posts are (choose one with a light starter and one with a dark starter in it  Wink):
a) the light starter + Claire and Alis
b) the dark starter + Bael and Hel (Might swap Tsubasa with either Bael for more punch or Hel for a different fighter)
c) any starter + Faust and Tsubasa

If you have more specific questions just ask them and I'll try to help.

One quick question darknight:

Where do you life?

(I might have read over this one)

Just in case there are some of "us" nearby.
Yes it's "us" now for you, not longer "them".  Wink
