Look at me raising the dead. Necromancers for the win!

I felt it was time to ask Ulisses-Spiele again about the future support of the german destribution of Hell Dorado. This morning I got a reply with sad news: the game doesn't sell enough to make any support viable, which means no official german web presence and no rulebook translation, neither as pdf nor printed.

Here the original reply:

"Hallo Christian,

And there I was hoping I could avoid polishing up my french. Well, it might come in handy during the next invasion  Wink

This was put out in an FAQ by Ulisses Spiele:

Was ist mit dem deutschen Helldorado-Regelwerk?

Das englische Helldorado-Regelwerk ist ja bereits erhältlich. Das Deutsche wird noch in diesem Jahr als PDF erscheinen. Eine Druckausgabe ist aktuell wirtschaftlich nicht lohnend, weil die Verbreitung des Spiels und damit die Nachfrage noch nicht groß genug ist. Sobald sich das ändert, werden wir auch eine Druckversion herausbringen.

The German book will be released as a pdf within this year and if the distribution of the game makes a printed version economically viable they will publish the book.

So far so vague.

Not to step on anyones toes, but i get the idea that you do speak english?

I dont see the problem? I myself is not english, but english is the main language of this world (almost atleast).
I wouldt understand if people really needed another translation, but everyone in europe atleast should be able to speak english.

This is my own point of view, and not to step on you at all. Merely standing that is probably not needed.

It's not about what I need. I don't need the english version because my french is good enough for the original. In your perception of the world english might be the main language. As far as I'm concerned everyone in Europe should be able to speak german  Smiley

A german version was promised and that's why I ask about it. I don't need it, but I want it.

Ulisses is translating and laying out the book.  As to how and when they will release it you will have to speak with them directly.

Ok, thanks for this clarification. But I guess Cipher is responsible for the german unit cards. I hope they match the terminology.

Since I already have the french one, I have no interest in getting another foreign version even if it includes the 1635 stuff and the FAQs in one solid book. Well, I guess I have to wait and see. Hell Dorado makes me really good at waiting. If only there was money to be had with this skill.

I read elsewhere that the german distributor, Ulisses Spiele, won't publish the german rulebook, but that we will get a pdf. There is no information to be found directly on Ulisses' website, so I thought I ask here, in the hope that a cipher official reads this and is willing and allowed to disclose the terms they agreed upon.

Will the german version be printed? Will the pdf they opted to put out sometime in the future be complete or some cut down mess?

Sometimes an Anima release comes out first in Germany due to that German efficiency!

That's how we roll. Gotta check on my piggy bank...

What were you disappointed about, because the Quickstart-rules are the rules in a nutshell. If you don't like the system then the rulebook will do nothing for you, I'm afraid.

I turned from "eagerly awaiting" to "nice to have" status considering the rulebook. It has done wonders for my nerves.

Thanks for the tip, but as stated in the progress post it's a stream of blood over a lake of skulls.

Well, in that case the colour is spot on, good job.

Looks good. But the colour scheme is more "stream of blood" than "lava". To make lava realistic you have to invert the usual lighting technique. The deep parts need to be brighter than the higher parts, because the closer the lava is to the core of the mass the hotter it is and the brighter it shines. The outer parts cool off and dim down on the light.

I for one would like to hear more about this free hot fudge sundae.

Ask the Candyman. The Candyman can give you all the answers! But stay away from Candywoman, she will turn your balls into jelly beans and bite them off. I like my hot fudge sundae with an ounce of cocaine...
13  Hell Dorado / General Discussion / Re: Undefined Rules for some of the English Cards on: March 09, 2011, 10:31:34 AM
What I don't get is that I was specifically told by Croc that the rules were inspired from Warmachine, and that the translation should reflect that. It was clear that "discrétion" was designed to be the equivalent of WM's "stealth" in HD. So that's the word I chose in the old fan-translation.

The official translation that came months later forcefully tried to distinguish itself from WM, which led to a lot of such odd word choices. And now Cipher re-uses quite a few of these poor translation choices...

Perhaps the words are supposed to sound as clunky as warjacks.  Wink

Scout: as Balgin said this ability comes to play during the terraformation phase of the game. Both players secretly bid points for each section of the battlefield and the one with the higher bid gets to place terrain pieces with a value equal to his bid. For each unit with the Scout ability a player has he can force the opposing player during the bidding process to either reveal the value of a placed bid or make the other player place an open bid in the section the player with the Scout choses.

Oops, thanks Barfal for letting me know. I corrected it.

No problem. And by the way: great paintjobs! The vivid colours are not to my taste, but the execution is brilliant.
