Getting Started

Hey all,

I bought and read the rulebook for this game and am pretty sold on getting started. I was going to try and get two starting forces because I loved the story and models for the wissenschaft and samael faction (and I wanted two forces to try and convert some friends).  So here's what I was thinking of picking up just as a starting force for the two factions:

Samael
Bael
Dark Cheshire
Shinigami Ayl

Wissenschaft
Alessa Raincross
Cordelia Rosalind
Hiro

Both would be roughly for a 150 lvl force.  Are these pretty good starting points for both organizations?  Let me know.

The snipers would beat up the Samael team. I would trade Janiel for Ayl (or Bael if you got an older starter) in it.

More importantly though is who is your audience? Cordelia is a more complicated character as far as abilities to learn. It is doable but not something I would use in a demo force if people were new to miniatures gaming and didn't already have some exposure on the basics of the genre.

i have to agree. cordelia isnt a good intro character. i would go with someone a bit more simple to use, such as celia or similar. though i have had great success using Hiro in demo games. people love that he has to stop every time he kills someone to pose.

the player always ends up posing once they get a kill as well. and almost every pose they strike is from a ginyu force throwback! gotta love it.

Cordelia will throw out a looong range 9/5 shot every turn at whoever she chooses (which has a better chance to hit than to miss on most of the characters). Alessa has one similar every other turn if she stealths after firing. The Samael team would only do slightly better in melee with Hiro around, and that's if Cheshire doesn't go down right away form a lucky crit at range. If you were to keep your current set up you could take Momiji instead of Bael and have a hidden character who couldn't be shot at to play a similar game and balance things out. Those aren't bad starting figs to get all around though.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I was thinking in the long run I would add XII, Lorenzo, and Rayne to the Wissenschaft group. My friends are pretty used to miniature gaming since we play Malifaux and Warhammer on a regular basis but if Cordelia is still too complicated of a character than who would be a good suggestion to replace her? Or should I just take her out and Ayl as well just to make things simpler.  (so Hiro and Alessa vs. Chesire and Bael)

Also I was wondering what else to get for Samael.  I liked Orphiel's story and was aiming for a crew containing him and his lacky's.  But I had a 40 lvl gap (after adding him and Kairos) to make a 300 lvl game.  I was thinking of Ahriman (using Orphiel as the summoner) but Janiel's character seems more useful against the inevitable wissenschaft build I was aiming for.  What do you guys think?

Definitely Janiel if you're looking to face off against Wiss. Without her the Wiss snipers will devastate you, with her THEY WILL KNOW FEAR!

Despite that I just lost my last two fights against Wiss using an Ophiel shooty team. I'll be posting Battle Reports of it next week. Personally, I blame Yuki :p
