Some of you may know the Wargaming blog-o-zine Bell of lost souls.  While its mostly a 40k site the content has been getting more diverse lately and it now offers a lot Warmachine stuff, as well as the occasional article on other systems.  So anyway, BoLS got sent a preview copy of the rulebook and I got to write the article for it.  What I wrote is more of a primer for potentially interested gamers from other systems than something for you die-hard forum goers.  But I thought you'd like to see it anyway, so here you go: http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2011/07/bols-primer-hell-dorado.html

Good work HandsomeDan!

I was skeptical(as I have seen some BoLS trolls reject anything that isn't "Spess Mahrene"), but that article was very well written and flowed very nicely. Thanks for linking it!

The review says, that the rulebook "does have an unfortunately high number of little typos" (I'd like to say: as expected) but what I worry about the most is if the translation properly retains all the witty little things that made the original fluff great (like references to Goethe's Faust for example). In other words - does someone know if the translation have been dumbed down or is the witty stuff still there ?

I don't know the Faust reference you're referring to specifically but there was was a part about how rules disputes should be settled with a slap fight.

Not off the top of my head.  I'll make sure to check the book when I get home.

Thank you.  I think the BoLS trolls have started to mellow out now that they know articles about new material aren't going to stop coming just because they cry about them.

There are four scenarios with a "special" type of each one, for a total of eight.

I was not expecting it. Not after the many claims from Cipher that they were proofreading the hell out of that thing.

The typo thing is disappointing, if true. Hopefully it's been at least a little bit overstated.

As one of the readers for some of the fluff, I certainly hope there aren't many. I did my hardest on the parts I read for readability.

Just look at the English cards - even after the mistakes have been pointed one by one here, on this forum, not all of them have been corrected in succesive updates of the .pdf file. That says a lot.

Glad I am not alone in reading the fluff got to say I am a bit worried it might loose its European flavour, on the rules side I remember the touch as the determining dominance was called not one for the casual gaming group. Hopefully we in the UK wont have to wait to long for the rule book I need one for my local club

The way I see it, better lose a bit of european flavour than keep it all but remain a dead game Wink

I have the book in hand. I like it a lot. The book is the larger European size. Which I like and I noticed right away almost all the nude pictures are still in the book which surprised me because in the US it is ok to show all kinds of disgusting visceral blood spray and violence but as soon as you show a little nudity people get crazy. I prefer the mature content.

Looks like the slap is gone. Now it is a coin toss. As I never read the old fluff I really couldn't tell you what else is missing. I read the fluff on a few of my favorite minis and it is great.
