Simply brilliant! Did you get MDF walls from GameCraft Miniatures?
One thing about the hills you have made - why don't you make any slopes so that units can get up on them?

Yes, the kit is from GameCraft Miniatures.

I have two reasons for not making sloped hills: aesthetics and utility. First, my vision for this particular table is an inhospitable, craggy landscape, hence the absence of nicely sloped hills.  Also, the sheer faces allowed me to add more details to the terrain, like hooks and spikes. Second, sloped hills create a number of practical problems for tabletop wargaming. If a hill's grade is not gradual enough, models, particularly metal and top heavy models, tend to topple over.  This creates obvious problems for model placement.  Moreover, because it's so gradual, a model-friendly grade takes up quite a bit of space, thus requiring a rather large hill.  I don't want a couple of large hills dominating my small, 30" x 30" board.  I want numerous smaller pieces that give models plenty of places to hide and take cover.

For game purposes, these hills have the Difficult and Opaque characteristics. Models that climb up a level must expend MVT equal to the vertical distance.

I've cut out the building's base and glued it to the tiled floor.

I've sanded down the spackle patches.  I enlarged the windows and  added window sills to better define the them.  I also added lanterns that I gleaned from GW's Watchtower kit.

Now it's time for the texture spray.  Wish me luck.

You are most welcome.

In my many years of wargaming, Ive seen and played on all types of terrain. In that time, I've come to the conclusion that no matter how amazing terrain looks, if it's not functional, if it impedes model placement and game-play, it's not "good" terrain.  The best terrain strikes a good balance between aesthetics and functionality.

Texturing complete.  Next step is to work on the base.   I'm also playing with the idea of adding something to the roof.

The roof of the garrison needed something to break up the big flat space, so I added a watchtower.

The Garrison's base is done. The building still isn't quite done yet.  It still needs something.

This is what the Saracen Garrison looks like on the board.

My table needed some terrain with the Obstructive characteristic.  Rather than emitting mist or haze, this terrain feature obstructs line of sight by emitting a spiral of swirling apparitions.

Once the GS is full dried, I will take a xactco blade to the rocks to sharpen their edges.

I plan to make at least one more of these. The base was purchased from www.mrdandy.com.

Eruption of Souls
Construction - Obstructive - Difficult

I think I'd stay far, far, away from building my garrison near those pools! lol

Great work, Koyote, and your details are superb.

Statue of Azrael (Archangel of Death)
Construction - Opaque - Blessed (Combat - Christians, Muslims, and Jewish)

The tiled section comes from GW's Warhammer Modular Movement Tray Set. The plinth was cut from a plastic cake-topper column.  I purchased the angel figure from a company called West Wind Productions.

I added a skull to Azrael's empty hand, to make him a bit more "deathy." Smiley

Woodland Scenics' Fine Ballast Cinders (B1376).  The 32 oz. bottle cost me $10.
