Hi all, I have seen in the last magazine "Ravage" Cipher that had come out a supplement that will contain about 8 new references per faction. This is a great news! And output accessories Gale Force Nine. Do you translate the basic book and the supplement in French, Spanish, Italian and German? If that is a problem of money, to see how the fund manages to play Mike McVey, "Sedition Wars", go through a site like "kickstarter" would be a good idea. "Sedition Wars" is more than 107,000 dollars collected from individuals, more than enough to run the game and produce high quality !!!!... http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/coolminiornot/sedition-wars-battle-for-alabasterSorry for bad English but it's the google translation.

What would Cipher be seeking funding for? Funding to bring out some more templars, resculpt Don Quixote, perhaps work on those Gorilla based Mayan/Aztec sub faction for the Lost, or maybe even, I don't know, resculpt Don Quixote?

Has Hell Dorado got enough of a following to use Kickstarter as great as it is it's a pretty niche game certainly or at least thats how it seems here in the UK. Having said that I would throw some money at it first suggestion get the core rule book sorted out once and for all as well as getting new sculpts done. Off topic but why are the Aztecs Gorillas this baffles me?

I'm a big fan of Kickstarter and I've even backed a couple projects. We are working on a book and have considered putting it up there at some point. What do you think? We're not ready to confirm a lot of details on the book yet because we're not done.

I definitely think Kickstarter is currently the way to go, there is huge marketing potential from advertising a game on that site, just taking one glance at the funded projects proves that. Going the direction that Mantic did with their Kings of War system seems like a good idea, use Kickstarter as marketing potential for the new book and provide miniatures at different increments. The draw of it really is in feeling like you are somewhat responsible for the development of the game, and what better way to reward existing players, and bring in the new.

I think that if you want a possible KS to succeed, it would be quite good: 1/ to wait until the project is 75% complete (when you already have sample pages to show, as well as new greens. The most successful projects are often almost finished products). 2/ to be *very* reactive during the entire campaign. 3/ to offer a reasonable alternative to EU/UK customers: shipping from USA entails custom fines for them. 4/ to provide rewards that would allow players to play out of the box (such as a two-starter+base book+expansion book bundle).

How about offering the ltd. ed. Traveler figure to any Kickstarter supporters or at least make it available to pledge for. Additional alternate sculpts would make for good stretch goals as well. The old French site had pictures of HD swag like branded tape measures and I'm still hoping for an HD branded Battlefoam type bag.

Just to give a different POV, as a game store owner I always take into account whether a project has been kickstarted when deciding how much to order. I was burned once when I ordered a bunch of a game I thought was going to be great and had a ton of buzz - only to find out anyone who was interested in it kickstarted it and got it that way.
You obviously make out selling the product att full price via kickstarter rather than wholesale to a distributor who sells it to me - but you risk stores not ordering or pushing your product because it's not worth it to them and that *could* hamper sales even more.
It's a rough line to walk, Local Game Stores and Game Manufacturers need each other in order to survive and I wonder how this "direct to consumer" approach Kickstarter brings is going to affect the gaming ecosystem in the long term. It will be interesting.
oh and btw, I am not "anti kickstarter" or anything like that, I just have to be a realist and not get stuck sitting on 6 copies of a game because that's bad for my business.
